Why choose me to build your website?

The simple answer? Because I have buckets of experience! Before becoming a writer, I ran an e-commerce gift business. I built it from scratch. This involved creating a brand, designing the website and maintaining it daily. I sold it at the height of its success.

Now, I get to use that experience and my web design skills to create stunning websites for writers. For me, it’s really the best of both worlds.

What are the costs involved in building my website?

Before we get to the design stage, there are some initial costs that you need to cover. You’ll need to purchase a domain and website hosting plan. Both can be managed through Squarespace. Pricing starts from just £12 per month. And there’s a 14-day free trial to start you off.

What is Squarespace?

Squarespace is one of the most popular website builders on the market. In my experience, it’s the best platform out there for building and hosting a stylish but straightforward author website. It offers a range of template styles and is more intuitive than other platforms.

How does it work with payment?

Before we begin your design, I ask for a 50% deposit. Then, once your website is complete, you pay the remaining 50% balance.

How long will it take to design my website?

This depends entirely on the design package you choose. Have a look at the options here. I am flexible so we can work on this as quickly or as slowly as you need. The most important thing is making sure you end up with a website that you’re proud of.

What do you need from me to get started?

I need all the content for your website! A few days before the design starts, you'll need to send me all the text, images, videos, that you want to feature. This includes author portraits. You’ll also need to complete a Style Guide, a simple questionnaire to fill in, that helps me get a sense of your needs and the aesthetic you want. If there’s anything you’re not sure of, don’t worry - I’m here to help!

When will the website go live?

Once your web design is finished, I’ll send you clear step-by-step instructions on how to make the site live. And I’ll be on hand to help if you get stuck.

What if I need to update the website afterwards?

I’m happy to offer ongoing web maintenance if you don’t want to manage the site yourself. I charge an hourly rate for this.

Alternatively, you can learn how to manage your website independently. I promise it’s not as complicated as it looks!

How long before publication do I need a website?

Great question! An author’s website should go live 3-6 months before their book is published but we can have the website designed any time before that. It’s best to get your site finished early in my opinion so you can concentrate on all the other exciting things that go hand-in-hand with pre-publication.

If you’re an author looking to build and nurture a community ahead of publication, you can always start a blog detailing your journey. Lots of authors do this. Have a look at my blog to get an idea. Launching your website early also means you can send a newsletter to readers and allows them to follow every step of your journey to publication.
